Thanks for visiting our site.
You have come to the right place if you've been told you have to sign a compromise agreement, and need to get a lawyer to look over it and countersign it.

In October 2011, we took out message to Liverpool Street and Moorgate. Hundreds of City employees asked questions and grabbed copies of our new brochure and its message inside. Probably they were worried about possible redundancies in the City of London, or may be they were just looking for some free advice on employment problems.
Don't worry if you missed our display: there is a lot of information about these agreements on this site, or you can get free personal advice right now by:
Briefly:
These agreements are popular with employers because they prevent an employee making another employment claim later.
So why should you sign a Compromise Agreement?
Whether you want to accept the proposal is entirely up to you, but the will almost certainly there will be some advantages in accepting the offer, or something like it. To encourage employees to accept the terms that are offered these terms are always slightly better than the minimum that the employer could hope to get away with, and are sometimes very much better.
What next?
We have seen dozens of these agreements over the last few years, and can quickly tell you if the example compromise agreement you have been given contains all the essential terms these agreements must have, and we can discuss with you whether you should hold out for better terms.
Will we need to meet?
Again, this is up to you. We can often handle everything by email or telephone, and we have even had cases where the employee didn't even live in the UK. But if it is quicker or easier we can meet in the City or at Canary Wharf.
Will you have to pay anything?
No: in over seven years we have been working on these agreements the employee has never paid us anything.
What else is this site about?
Feel free to browse around. Our site is mainly focused on the needs of City employees, because if they are made redundant they are often asked to sign a compromise agreement before they leave.
In times of economic stress, an unfair dismissal, harassment or racial or sexual discrimination might be added to disputed redundancy claims. Even if responsible employers do their best to keep to the law, employment protection laws often lead to disputes in the modern world of corporate downsizing and restructuring.
Do I need a lawyer, if I already know what I want?
You do, if you want to sign a valid compromise agreement. The independent adviser has a vital role to play. He or she will normally be be an independent solicitor, and for the compromise agreement to be valid it must be approved by someone independent of the employer's disciplinary or redundancy process. Guy Thompson & Co can provide that adviser - we have years of experience of City business and are fully independent of every City institution.
Summary
The compromise agreement has no rival in its overall success in achieving results that benefit all concerned.
It is
certainly the quickest and cheapest way
to conclude almost any employment issue, because both employer and
employee can settle employment disputes of all types, or avoid them
altogether, in a way that is clear, fair and free of
ambiguity. It is is one of the very few ways employers
and employees can settle a dispute relating to an employment contract,
once and for all.

For the employee, issues are sorted out fast, typically with improved terms, and the whole deal is reviewed by an independent lawyer - at no cost to the employee.
For the employer, it
acts as
security that an issue that was believed to be settled, or even a
totally new claim, does not appear later unexpectedly.
